Summer Camping Trip with Single Moms Planet + The Scouts

Last week, Caiden and I went on an incredible Summer camping trip hosted by Single Moms Planet and the Boy Scouts of America. We spent 3-days/2-nights at Camp Emerald Bay - located on the West end of Catalina Island and away from Avalon. This was a much needed trip for us to experience together. We both left our comfort zones and had the BEST time.

Camping is still new to me and when you throw in a ferry (I get seasick) to Catalina Island...yeah I was a bit nervous about this trip. But since Camp Emerald Bay is only open to large community groups like the Scouts - this was a rare opportunity that I couldn't pass up. Plus they provide the tents and food...all we needed to bring was sleeping bags, clothes, flash lights, swim gear, toiletries, towels, snacks and water. FYI they're food menu offers vegetarian and gluten-free options.

Day One

We arrived on a Friday and had to share the campsite with the Boy Scouts - who have been there for a week. As a mom of boys, I had no problem with this...because I wanted to see how these kids behaved without their parents around. And since Caiden is not a Cub Scout - this was a great way for him to see what being a Boy Scout is all about.

The Scouts are providing the tools to build leaders with their educational programs and activities, like camping, and Camp Emerald Bay is no exception. There's a Marine Science Center with touch tanks filled with local sea life and they offer programs like SCUBA and Sailing.

Camp Emerald Bay is home to beautiful beaches and almost felt like we were on a mini-vacation thousands of miles away from home.

Caiden's first time snorkeling!

Every night ended with a campfire and the Boy Scouts did a great job entertaining us. OH! and we even got to see the International Space Station fly above us...something we'd never get to see in LA!

Day Two

Once the Boy Scouts left...we had the entire campsite to ourselves! Our day started with a beautiful hike where we looked for animal tracks and learned more about the island's topography.

Then we learned Archery and how to shot BB guns!

Followed by water play! Caiden and I kayaked but unfortunately no photo of that experience. :(

We ended our adventure filled day with a campfire and s'mores....the perfect way to say good-bye to our new friends. And because of this trip, Caiden is ready to join the Cub Scouts!

Thank you so much Single Moms Planet and Boy Scouts of America for this unforgettable experience...can't wait for next year!
