Boo at the Los Angeles Zoo

This Halloween season, make sure to stop by the Los Angeles Zoo for their annual Boo at the Zoo event! But if you're not in the LA area, check your local zoo, because there's a chance something spooky is stirring-up for the whole family to enjoy.

It's nice and quiet to vistit during the weekdays, especially with daily activities such as spooky caves and a corn stalk maze, but weekends are so much more fun! There's special weekend activities like a “Mad Science Fire and Ice Halloween Show,” “Musical Monster Mash-Up” puppet show, a costumes-encouraged dance party, boo-tiful Halloween themed crafts, strolling characters, pumpkin carving, and special animal feedings.

When you first enter the zoo, be sure to check out the Dinosaurs: Unextinct exhibit to gaze at the 17 life-size, lifelike dinosaurs and some unfortunate remnants of an overnight expedition gone wrong. But don't worry, it's safe now! The exhibit is open till October 31st. and it's $5 for guests 2 years and older-in addition to your zoo admission.

In a twist on a more traditional Halloween haunted house, the Zoo brings back its one-of-a-kind spooky cave experience in the Winnick Family Children’s Zoo, filled with shadows and projections of slithering snakes and crawling spiders, eerie sounds and other special effects.  Other daily activities include a corn stalk maze filled with hair-raising Halloween scenes, among them a haunted barn, and a "freaky frame" photo op.  Guests can get up close and personal to some of the Zoo's scaly, slithery creatures at “Animals and You” encounters, with tarantulas, scorpions, snakes and more at 10: 45 and 11:45 am daily, plus an extra show at 12:45 pm on weekends.

The boys loved the "Musical Monster Mash-Up" puppet show and even got to meet one of the stars!

Costumes are fun to wear and perfect for photo opps but make sure the kids are dressed comfortably. It can still get hot even though it's Fall here in LA. There's lots of zoo ground to cover, especially with the Boo at the Zoo event, so wear comfy shoes. I love the Pediped shoes that Caiden is wearing. it's super light with a breathable mesh lining and most importantly, it's machine-washable! I need to get a pair for Ronan. :)  Don't forget to pack snacks, water, and sun-block, too!

On the weekends of Saturday and Sunday, October 22- 23 and 29-30, the Zoo partners with Disney to add activities and giveaways previewing the upcoming release of the animated film Moana.  Stations from KIND Healthy Snacks, the LA Federal Credit Union, and ScholarShare add to the Halloween happenings throughout the month.  BOO AT THE L.A. ZOO's Halloween bash concludes on Saturday and Sunday, October 29-30 with traditional trick-or-treat stations throughout the grounds and special costume character meet-and-greets with PJ Masks and Peppa Pig!

Activities at BOO AT THE L.A. ZOO, which is sponsored by 99 Cents Only Stores, are free with paid Zoo admission. Check www.lazoo.org/BOO for details and daily schedules
